Bowen Therapy

Bowen is a unique, non-intrusive complementary hands on therapy/bodywork, based on theory that gentle moves over precise points of the body can prompt the body’s innate ability to relieve pain, restriction and imbalance without the need for deep, manipulative or forceful treatment.

Sometimes, people do not expect such a powerful effect after such gentle and light manipulations. However, our bodies do not always need rough manipulations in order to be healed. Moreover, sometimes stronger manipulations will put the body into stressed and defensive mode.

Bowen therapy is effective because, with minimum of stress on the body, it focuses the innate healing capacity of the body exactly where it is needed to facilitate speedy recovery, pain relief and healing.

The gentle moves on soft tissue stimulate physiological changes & energy flow, empowering the body's own resources to heal itself.  Due to the gentle nature of the therapy, it can be used on anyone: from newborns to seniors. It is used to address variety of conditions, both chronic and acute.

Bowen Therapy treatment is pleasant – therapists use light, cross-fibre maneuvers of muscle, tendon or ligament with no forceful manipulation.  Treatment is usually done through lightweight clothing, no lotions or oils are used. There is no cracking, probing or other kind of forceful manipulation.

Bowen often helps where the other therapies fail.
Treatment usually does not need to be continuous, and often just a very few sessions will change the situation.

Developed by the late Tom Bowen in Australia, it is a unique system that has amazed therapists of all disciplines. "A dynamic and powerful therapy that quickly resets the body's structure and addresses pain using a specific sequence of gentle muscle rolls." D.Murphy, Naturopath, Senior Bowen Therapist. Official site of Bowen Therapy in Canada    Canadian Registry of Bowen Therapists
